Ottawa Race Weekend: Inspiration in Pictures

The Ottawa Race Weekend seems to grow every year. This year's event (35th anniversary) saw records for attendance (36,000 participants!), spectators, and speedy running (several course records were set).

It's one race I don't mind missing because the spectating is so much fun. The races this year certainly didn't disappoint, and provided their usual grand dose of inspiration and motivation.

Here are some pictures from the 10k and the Kids Marathon (1.2k). I won't take credit for the better ones, which were taken by my brother in law Bob Cadloff.

Women's chase pack (Olympic triathlete Kathy Tremblay followed by Lucy Smith and Lisa Harvey)

Lead men (Merga ran 27:23, breaking current race director John Halvorsen's long standing course record)

1st Canadian woman - Tara Quinn Smith

Women's winner Teyba Erkesso (ran 31:50 - also a course record)

Much of the 10k course follows the canal. Good idea to spectate in a canoe!

10k runners

Megan at 7k

Alana at 7k

Kids marathon - they train running 41 km on their own, and complete the last 1.2km on the race course.

My son Evan, a little bruised and bloody from a fall off the start, but still a happy runner!

This little girl was fast! (and determined)
