This weekend a couple of XC Ottawa members headed down south of the border to Stowe, Vermont for the 09/10 Eastern Cup. Karl, Megan, Colin, Kyle and Lee all made the drive down for the weekend of racing on the beautiful trails at the famous Trapp Family Lodge. The weekend consisted of two races, a classic interval start (5km for women, 10km for men) and a skate interval start (10km for women, 10km for men).
Karl racing in the 10km classic
The classic race was most notable for me because of the fact that we, the athletes, were on our own for preparing our skis. I knew the coaches put a lot of work into making sure our skis were perfect but after preparing my own skis for the weekend I have a different appreciation of how great of job all the coaches on the ski scene do. Luckily we still had our coach John Suuronen on the phone to give us advice on what to use. Thanks a lot John.
Colin - 2km in to his 10km
We ended up having great skis for the classic race and had some good results in the extremely deep fields. In the men’s race Karl led the way for XC Ottawa with a very respectable 19th place finish. He was followed only 19 seconds behind by Colin in 25th place. Lee followed 1:20 behind in 62nd and Kyle skied to a 111th place finish. In the women’s race Megan had a great race finishing 12th overall against very talented women’s field.
Lee - striding up the last hill
Kyle - nice forward lean!
