WOF (Women over 50) Daytime Ski Training

When:  Fridays from late September until the end of March.  We  meet at  12:30 and are  finished before 3:00 to beat the rush hour and still get in a good 2+ hour workout.

What:  Weights, core strength, ski specific strength, agility,  speed work, balance, technical drills, hill work, pole work and  intervals.  All the usual Dryland stuff packaged with generous amounts  of complaining, chatting and laughter, not to mention lots of stares  from passersby! The format will change gradually as the season progresses, building from week to week. Once the snow comes, we will focus on technique, distance, poling workouts and hill work.  We switch from Dryland to skiing as soon as the Gatineau Park parkways have a thick dusting of snow. This year, by popular demand,  we are adding  some on-snow skate  sessions as well as a waxing workshop.  There will be some "testing" at the beginning of the season (but nothing competitive unless you are that way inclined).  This training is oriented to general ski fitness, equally suitable for those planning to ski in the Ski Marathon or in the Gatineau Loppet.

For whom:  Women who are committed to training together on a  weekly basis.  They must be aged  50 or older,  active, reasonably fit  and comfortable on classic and / or skate skis.  No beginners, please.   Our athletic backgrounds are varied!  They include running, cycling, mountain biking, orienteering, swimming, hiking, paddling, boot camp, yoga and sailing.  We each have our particular strengths and weaknesses, but share  a love of training together outdoors.

Where:  Gatineau Park.  We begin near the Visitor's center in September and branch out to more adventurous locales, including Nakkertok, as the weeks pass. We meet in all weather and have a history of enjoying our best times in the foulest weather!

Registration:    (Before registering, please contact Jo-Ann to see  if there is still space. )

  • A minimum donation $25 to CPAWS - http://www.cpaws.org
  • A purchase or donation of a piece of equipment for the group such as weights, skipping ropes, medicine balls, tubing, cones, etc. as needed by the group.   We need equipment that can be present every week, regardless of attendance.
