I'm in Silverstar, BC, for a week until the first NorAm Races of the season next weekend. It's become a traditional family holiday (lucky me!), and we've got some friends along to enjoy it and catch the Silverstar bug. Although it's just been a few days, I think everyone's impressed.
If you love winter and cross country skiing, it's hard to beat this place. Spectacular scenery, plentiful early season snow, and a huge network of trails that you can access from your door (combined with the adjacent Sovereign Lake trail system, there are more than 100km of interconnected trails). The variety of trails is incredible too - you can ski on World Cup loops, easy trails, or all the way up and over the mountain for a fun distance ski with stunning views.
We're staying in a house at the top of the mountain, so if you didn't get enough out of your ski, you can always look forward to the great climb up to the house. Some of us like that more than others . . .
Here are a few pictures:
Great trails and great grooming out our back door
Our short walk (50m) to the trail
Our house - Silberne Spitzen
Taking a break on Silverstar trails with Jen
Spectacular mountain views
Skiing back up to the house - staying on top of the mountain means most outings finish with a great climb - we'll all be mountain goats by the end of our stay
Sovereign Lake facility - one of my favourite places to ski
Working on classic skiing (the NorAm races are both classic) - snow feels so much better than rollerskiing!
Sue chases Ali in our speed relays
First of the Nakkertok racers to arrive
Nakkertok style jumps at Sovereign Lakes
Time for a rest!
