A great weekend of racing for XC Ottawa came to an end last Sunday with an individual start classic race on the difficult trails of Whistler Olympic Park. It would be hard to ask for better conditions as the sun was shining, the tracks were bombproof and the temperature was hovering at a pleasant -4 C. The men went out first, completing 3 laps of a very hilly 5 km course followed by the women who would do 2 laps for their 10km. As Andre put it “those guys at the Olympics made it look so easy!”, we all soon found out that this was not actually the case.

Lee had another great race today leading XC Ottawa to a 19th place finish overall. Karl had another solid day to finish in 34th overall. Matthias and Peter were neck and neck separated by only 8 seconds and also just behind Karl in 38th and 41st respectively. Logan had a strong showing finishing 60th and was followed by Kyle in 68th and Andre in 77th.

On the Women’s side Megan burned up the field coming a solid 22nd overall. Sheila closely followed up Megan with a 27th place finish. Vesta and Kyla had strong races as well finishing seconds apart in 36th and 38th overall. Ingrid was right behind them in 42nd, Anna had a strong showing in 59th and Katie skied to a 64th.

Overall it was a great race for XC Ottawa and a great weekend of racing put on at Whistler Olympic Park. Thanks so much to the organizers for putting on great races in sometimes unfavorable conditions.

Also a HUGE thanks to our Coach and Head Wax Technician John Suuronen for nailing the skis everyday and to his legion of wax helpers (Justin, Tom, Ed, Eamonn and Chad) who made testing and application of wax on race days that much better. You guys rock!

Here are some great pictures from race day. Man do we look good in our Podiumwear suits.
