We're thrilled to announce that the Opeongo Hills Nordic Ski Club is
officially up and running!
The club was formed to develop groomed-trail cross-country and skate
skiing in the Madawaska Valley, and the trails are located on 800+
acres of private land which the owners have generously allowed us use
of to groom trails for the club.
Grooming will allow us to develop instructional programs for children
and adults. Lessons in classic and skate technique will be available.
School and loppet programs will eventually be offered, as well as
social outings.
Registration
Every skier must be a registered member of the club and sign a waiver.
A day-use fee is also available. You can register for both online
through www.zone4.ca (season memberships AND you can pay for your day
[or two, or three] pass through this system).
Trails and Use
There is already a network of roads on the property, which are quite
ski-able and easy to maintain. This is scenic terrain with lots of
hills and valleys—a wonderful variety. Currently we have mapped about
9 km, but more will be available as soon as possible.
Since this is a new venture, there is still lots under development.
Parking will be limited this season, mainly due to the cost of
plowing.
People who wish to snowshoe are also welcome and are asked to keep to
the side of the tracks.

A few key things to note about Opeongo Nordic:
There aren't any outhouses... yet!
Parking is limited... meaning, there's no parking lot, yet!
Cellphones do not work in the area, probably not ever!
For the season opening, we plan to have in place:
Signage for the entrance and trails
Drop-box for payment/membership/waivers (ideally pay online before arrival!)
Full-moon ski nights
Social skiing get-togethers
Accommodation
Twin Wheels Farm is a B&B with a large, comfortable cabin for rent and
