Once again, join families, fast folks, and little ski fiends at the 2014 Boxing Day Burnoff at Nakkertok Nordic. Come on out to this fun-first race and team up with a partner against all challengers. This year, we’re keeping things traditional with a sprint relay format.
Race Format: Sprint Relay. You may all know how this works, but you team up with one other person, and you each do three laps of a sprint course, alternating laps by tagging off to your other member between each lap. We will be asking our intrepid and expert course groomers to design the most creative, innovative, challenging, and fun sprint course possible.
Teams: Please try and show up with a team (two people). If you show up solo we will try to have an idea of who else might be solo but we can't promise you the team of your dreams.
Categories: We will have three categories, relating to age and/or perceived ability. Our course is top secret so, if you want to know what you will ski you will have to show up on the 26th!!!!
Technique: ******SKATING******
Who: Everyone and anyone is welcome to participate, whether you’ve raced before or watched your kids race. Some people may be going fast, but others will be staggering under the weight of prodigious turkey consumption the previous night.
When: Boxing Day, December 26th. Please be there by at least 9:30 to register. The races will start at 10:00 – shorter ones first.
Where: Nakkertok Nordic Centre
Registration: Register at Zone4.ca or register on the day-of, at the Nordic Centre Cabin. Ideally you would take the time to register on Zone 4 since it would make everyone's life easier!!! Please try and be registered between 8:00 and 9:30.
Cost: $5 per person or $10 per team. If you choose to register on site, please try and bring the right amount of moneypreferably in increments of 5 – our ability to make change will be limited! As well, in the event that the weather doesn't cooperate we will not be sending out refunds.
Costumes: Please. Outrageous preferred, and team themed would be great.
Prizes: We’ll come up with something great… we always do!
Volunteering: Really? THAT would be awesome. In fact, if you are a spectator we could use your help!!!!! Track down Sue Holloway or the registration/start crew when you get there or send an email to rachel_minerva@yahoo.ca ahead of time.
Conditions: Like most, this race is snow-dependent! We’ll post a cancellation notice once it seems impossible that we’ll get snow – so if you’re wondering, check the Nakkertok or XC Ottawa sites. See you there!
