Fresh snow Thursday night made for interesting races Friday morning. Friday the 30th, was the kickoff to another weekend of races for XC-Ottawa at the Eastern Canadian Championships held in Ottawa. While the open men had a 1.5km skate sprint the open women sprinted 1.4km.

The weekend prior to this, XC-Ottawa joined up with Carleton University and Nakkertok for a time trail around the sprint course. The time trial was formatted similar to an actual sprint race and gave us a good sense on how to race the course. Fast forward again to Friday, and the course conditions were vastly different then the conditions we were skiing on the weekend before. Instead of the fast, hard-packed snow we were used to, we were greeted with soft, fresh, snow. The course quickly became chopped up adding more difficulty to the course. With the support of our awesome wax techs though, our skis ran smoothly with the application of Vauhti HF Green covered with Vauhti BlackFox.

XC-Ottawa rose to the challenge of the corse, producing some solid results.  The senior women (Kyla, Ingrid, Sheila, and Katie), finished the day 9th, 13th, 14th, and 22nd respectively. The senior men (Steffan and Andre) finished 18th and 21st. I, the solo junior women, finished 12th and our training partners Colin and Mark finished 10th and 39th. The general feedback I received on how the day went, was fairly positive.

Kudos to both our wax techs and all of the friendly volunteers at Nakkertok for helping this event run smoothly!
