Last year a new xc ski team started at the University of Ottawa. Here’s an update on our progress . . .
We achieved Competitive Sports Club Status this past May. Though funding is minimal, this season we are looking forward to competing as uOttawa Gee-Gees! We will send a team to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships and take advantage of the Ottawa-Gatineau region’s impressive local race calendar. Beyond training and racing we are committed to outreach and community engagement.
We are excited for the season. Have a look at our

Our athletes showcase a welcomed variety of abilities, ambitions, and experience: we have Canadian NorAm circuit competitors and former high school racers. The majority have had no options to ski through post-secondary education, and we’re thrilled to provide that opportunity. We still have big challenges. We don’t have any waxing gear, our University budget barely covers hotel costs for one travel race (OUAs), and transportation to ski trails is an issue (most of our athletes don't have cars). Our students assume most other costs associated with skiing (trail fees, race entry fees, etc.). To make skiing with uOttawa Nordiq accessible to all students we are trying to reduce costs with
We welcome contributions to these events, or if you can support the team in another way - old waxing equipment you're not using (we really need a form/table!), please let us know at uOttawaNordiq@gmail.com).
