National Roller Skiing Championship set for Gatineau Park, September 29th and 30th, 2006

The first ever Canadian Roller Ski Championships will be held in the City of Gatineau and Gatineau Park on Sept 29 & 30. The event will have a festive atmosphere as the organizers of the Keskinada Loppet join forces with Club Skinouk to host the multi race event.

There will be 3 races; a prologue, mass start 20km Keski Climb and a sprint. First on the agenda is a timed interval start prologue on Friday evening. The prologue will set the stage for the National Championship 20 km Keski Climb on Saturday morning. Results of the mass start format will be combined with the times from the Friday evening Prologue to determine a Pursuit champion. The Championships finishes off on Saturday afternoon with the dynamic sprint championships over 200 metres.

The Keski Climb 20 km on Saturday morning will also form part of the Elpex Cup circuit, a series of 5 roller ski events held annually throughout Quebec. National Champions will be declared in Junior and Senior categories with National Aggregate Championships named based on rank from the Prologue, Pursuit calculations and Sprint races.

The 20 km race will take place in the beautiful Gatineau Park just north of Gatineau / Ottawa. Maintained by the National Capital Commission, the park offers traffic free roadways for roller skiers, cyclists and in-line skaters during the fall. The prologue and the National short course sprint race will be held in a high profile downtown location to help promote the growing popularity of roller skiing.
