The new snow and mild temperatures will make this a spectacular weekend for skiing in the region, and there are many other nordic events to follow . . .
  • Megan, Karl, Craig, Ed, and Brian are off to Duntroon for the final Ontario Cup race.
  • The Cross Country ski events at the Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse begin Monday. XC Ottawa's Gavin Hamilton is racing for the Ontario Team. Follow the events at this link
  • On the International scene, the World Championships in Japan wrap up with the final distance events: 30km classic for the women, and 50km classic for the men. Follow the racing here.
There's a lot going on in the Ottawa region too!
Sunday, March 4 seems to be the big day, with these events:

Nakkertok hosts the Nakkerloppet, a
25 km ski on a beautiful wooded trails from Nakkertok North to South.

Nakkertok South will also be hosting a ski-orienteering event.
Registration opens at 9am with staggered starts from 9:30 to 10:30.

The Norwegian Embassy is hosting Norway Day in the Gatineau Park at Huron Lodge 11- 2 pm.
Norwegians are known for their love of skiing and the outdoors - traditions that they were eager to share with people from other parts of the world. Norway Day lets people take in a typical Norwegian family ski outing, complete with the serving of freshly made waffles and hot blackcurrent toddy.

Or, if you're into snowshoeing, check out the final event of the Madtrapper Snowshoe Series.

Enjoy the weekend!
