This week XC Ottawa and just about every other ski club in Canada will
be at the National Championships in Mont-Saintee-Anne. Of course, the
National Championships are always a highlight of the season. The fact
that the Senior and Junior National Championships have been combined
for the past several seasons has contributed some much needed
atmosphere. Some of those Senior Nationals races we did about ten
years ago were pretty quiet (try a 30k individual start classic race,
mid-week, in the pouring rain and watch the spectators just pour in!).
On the other hand, I didn't have to deal with all these fast young
juniors embarrassing me!

This year's schedule looks like this:

Sunday, March 18: Team Sprint and University Relays.
Tuesday, March 20: Individual Skate
Wednesday March 21: Individual Classic
Friday, March 23: Classic Sprint
Sunday, March 25: Skate Mass Start races.

It is bound to be a busy week, especially for the people doing all the
races. It is also bound to be exciting, with just about everyone who
is not already racing in Europe showing up to rumble.

XC Ottawa is looking forward to it. So should you!
