Paying homage to the Squamish Chief

Last week while I was staying with my sister Julia in Vancouver we borrowed a car and made the 50 minute trip North out to the base of the Squamish Chief in the Sqamish Chief provincial Park.  Leaving the city can be a pain but once we got going it went pretty well and as we drove out it became apparent that the weather really couldn't be any better.  25, clear and sunny.  Once we made it to the trail head (about 5 minutes before the town of Squamish) Julia and Ugo got their 8 month old Olivier packed up for the hike while I reviewed the map.  It revealed no "walk in the park", we would be climbing over 600 meters over only a few kilometers.

The map was right.  The trail was steep and in some parts, especially near the top, quite challenging, with some scrambles, and exposed areas with bolted chains to help you along.  As it turns out though, Olivier and Ugo were good climbing companions and everyone made it safely up and down.  The whole trip, taken at a decent pace took about three and a half hours, which includes a quick dip near the bottom in a creek (good for tired legs!).

Anyway, hope you enjoy the photos and you consider this great short adventure on British Colombia's coast.

What is the Raven thinking?
