In the words of a random passerby from Thursday night, “ You guys are pretty desperate eh!”
Indeed we are.
To wet our appetite for real skiing if only for one night we again headed to Brewer Park for a fun filled evening of Zamboni-snow skiing. This year was by far the most well attended mini-sprint race thanks to the large contingent of Carleton Nordic Team skiers. It seems to be growing in popularity every year!
The evening consisted of head to head single round knockouts, consisting of two laps around the 80m track. After an exciting flurry of races the undisputed Brewer Park Champions of 2011 were crowned. Once again a new champion was crowned for the boys with, XC Ottawa superstar Peter Beisel taking home the win against a deep field including former champions Matthias Purdon and Lee Hawkings and speed demons Kyle Power, Logan Potter, Matt Brown and Nic Clifford. For the women Carleton skier and fellow Whitehorsian Kendra Murray dominated the field of strong skiers including XC Ottawers, Ingrid Hagberg and Kyla Vanderzwet, Carleton Skiers Holly Jones and Liza Rozina as well as guests Lindsey Chapman and Laura Hewitt. Kendra even gave some of the boys (e.g. Lee) a run for their money! Watch out for these two in the coming season!
